A Christmas Dream

Midnight struck on Christmas Eve in the small picturesque village of Castle Bytham. The snow was falling and not a sound could be heard except for the slight rustle of grand trees stood tall in the hillside woods.
In the distance the flicker of a wood fire could be seen in the window of a lonely cottage. A small boy was sat in front of the fire with his small dog waiting for that jolly old man to drop down the chimney.
As day started to break the small boy drifted off in to a deep slumber with his dog laid across his legs. As the sun got higher in the sky, the small white dog started to bark at the chimney and as the little boy awoke, he heard a soft deep voice. “Merry Christmas my child” said the voice and as the boy came around, a tall man dressed in red with a bushy white beard stood before him.
At that very moment something magical happened and with a dusting of snow the little boy and the tall man had been taken to a place of pure perfection. The small boy’s eyes lit up with wonder as they were cast upon a land covered in snow. The boy wondered backwards and forwards in awe as the tall old man started to trek towards a cosy looking log cabin in the distance. The boy struggled to keep up with the old man, and as the old man got further away, the boy found himself being lifted onto a sleigh by three very short people. As the sleigh approached the log cabin, the young boy’s eyes lit up with the sight of Christmas lights that covered every corner of the cabin.
The jolly old man invited the young boy into his long cabin where he was met by lots of very short men and a very pleasant lady with rosy red cheeks and a certain glow about her. She asked the young boy if he would
like to have a hot drink. The boy gladly accepted the offer and was handed a mug of hot coco. As the boy was drinking his coco, the old lady asked his name. The boy shyly replied, “I’m called George.”
“Well I’m called Mrs Clause” said the old lady “and that’s Santa clause,” she continued. “You mean that I’m in Lapland?” asked the boy in amazement. The lady replied in a comforting tone, “that’s right and you were brought here for a very special job.” Just as this was said, Santa walked into the room and sat in an old style rocking chair in front of the fire and asked, “How would you like to come on a journey with me to deliver some presents?” George didn’t hesitate in replying “Of course I would!” and with that Santa said “Right then George, come on, we have work to do.”
George and Santa promptly left the room and went out to some stables where they could see some antlers pocking up above the stable doors.
“I would like you to meet some very special reindeer.” Said Santa as George stared at nine reindeer.
George was then shocked to see five little men leading one of the deer out of the stable towards them.
“This is Rudolf” said one of the elves, “he’s the one that guides the sleigh.” The elves attached all the deer to the sleigh and then as quickly as the arrived they had gone. Santa then said, “In you get then George,” George quickly jumped aboard the sleigh and off they went. “Where are we going asked George in suspense?”
“Well George, it’s Christmas in Australia and I thought that you would be the perfect helper for me to do this most important job of delivering presents.”
As they neared Australia Santa gave George a huge sack and told him to just throw the presents and they will go where they need to go.
The two spent about 3 hours over Australia and on the way back Santa said “Time to go home then George!” and as soon as Santa said this George had appeared back in his house in front of that fire asleep with the
little white dog. And to this day George wonders to him self, could the whole thing have been a dream. But of course we all know differently, don’t we!?
